Statman Dave previews the Chelsea vs Liverpool game. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool head to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, to face Frank Lampard’s Chelsea. Both sides are coming off poor results in the Champions League, Liverpool losing 2-0 at Napoli and Chelsea facing a 1-0 loss at home to Valencia and both teams will certainly want to bounce back on the weekend.
Liverpool stand as the only unbeaten side in the Premier League, already five points ahead at the top of the table and Klopp’s men will certainly want to keep the gap between them and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City - as wide as possible. Only Norwich City (12) have conceded more goals than Lampard’s Chelsea - the blues will definitely need to keep things tight at the back against the lethal front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino - who have already been involved in 16 goals combined in the Premier League this season.
Frank Lampard needs to find a balance at Stamford Bridge, whilst it’s great having Tammy Abraham as the top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals - Chelsea already shipping 12 goals at the other end is a serious concern, although the addition of Fikayo Tomori has been a breath of fresh air for Chelsea at the back, but Antonio Rudiger has struggled with fitness and he could be a potential partner for the young England U21’s star.
Jurgen Klopp will be rubbing his hands at the way Chelsea conceded four goals at Old Trafford back in August, Manchester United hit the blues on the break for pretty much every goal, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial terrorised the Chelsea defence. Jurgen Klopp knows his front three can emulate or even better what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United managed on the counter. But Liverpool will still need to keep Tammy Abraham quiet, the young prodigy is in the form of his life and he will definitely have Virgil van Dijk on his toes.
Can Frank Lampard’s Chelsea end Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League?
