️⚽️ Manchester United OR Liverpool to Win?

Manchester United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday knowing that they’re massive underdogs - but how should they approach the game?
Manchester United have arguably played some of their best football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when set-up in a 4-1-2-1-2 AKA a 4-4-2 diamond. This is the system that makes the most sense when facing Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side. The diamond shape allows you to congest the central areas of the pitch, limit the influence of the likes of Fabinho and Firmino and utilize through balls to get in-behind Liverpool’s high line.

Liverpool are obviously absolutely flying at the minute - they’ve won 8/8 Premier League games and have statistically the best defense in the league. However the likes of RB Salzburg, Napoli and to a lesser extent perhaps even Sheffield United have shown in recent weeks that you can cause them real problems if you are both tactically astute and mentally strong - two things that Manchester United absolutely have to be. Manchester United vs. Liverpool has always been a huge game and Manchester United will be looking to make the case for it still being so, given that Liverpool with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have simply been levels above in recent times.
I’d expect Manchester United to set-up with Sergio Romero replacing the injured David De Gea in goal, a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tuanzebe or Lindelof, Maguire and Young, a midfield of Fred in for the injured Pogba, McTominay, Lingard and Fred with Martial and Rashford up top. Liverpool will more than likely go with: Adrian or maybe even Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Firmino.
